North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a Republican, is facing mounting pressure to drop out of the state’s gubernatorial race following a bombshell report from CNN that he years ago referred to himself as a “black NAZI” on a pornography website’s message board.

Robinson has denied making the comments. His campaign events scheduled for Thursday were canceled.

He alleged in a video posted to social media that Democratic nominee Josh Stein’s campaign leaked the story to CNN.

“Let me assure you, the things you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson,” he said. “You know my words. You know my character, and you know that I have been completely transparent in this race and before.”

“We are staying in this race. We are in it to win it,” he said.

Why Is Mark Robinson Facing Pressure to Leave the Gubernatorial Race?

Many of Robinson’s previous comments on the pornography website “Nude Africa” go against statements he has made recently in public on issues such as transgender rights and abortion. The comments predate Robin’s entry into politics.

For example, Robinson said in February that transgender women should be arrested for using women’s restrooms. However, Robinson said he enjoyed watching transgender pornography, according to the CNN report.

He also wrote that he supported the return of slavery.

“Slavery is not bad. Some people need to be slaves. I wish they would bring it (slavery) back. According to CNN, ” I would certainly buy a few,” he wrote in 2010.

The media outlet reported that Robinson in March 2012 wrote that he preferred the former leader of Nazi Germany Adolf Hitler over the leadership in Washington during the Obama administration.

“I’d take Hitler over any of the sh*t that’s in Washington right now!” he allegedly wrote.

Who Is Mark Robinson?

Robinson is from Greensboro, North Carolina, and became the first Black Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in 2021. He and his wife have two children and two grandchildren.

The state government’s website says he “was the ninth of ten children and grew up extremely poor.”

“Mark became a household name in 2018 when he delivered a firm address to the Greensboro City Council defending the 2nd Amendment. The website states that this speech went viral and has been viewed over 200 million times online,” the website states. “Following this speech, Mark began traveling to spread a message of common-sense conservatism: Protecting the life of the unborn, defending the 2nd Amendment, giving control over children’s education back to parents, standing up for law enforcement, addressing veterans‘ care, and enacting election reform.”

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Robinson in March, saying he was “better” than Martin Luther King, Jr. (Robinson was previously disparaging of King on Nude Africa, according to CNN, calling him a “commie bastard,” “worse than a maggot” and a “huckster,” among other terms.)

Trump won North Carolina in the past two elections, despite the state electing Democrat Roy Cooper to the governor’s office each time. Term limits prevented Cooper from running for reelection again.

Polling has consistently shown Robinson trailing Stein, the state’s attorney general, in the gubernatorial race.
