Woman Hospitalized After Assault in Apartment in Downtown Los Angeles High-Rise

LOS ANGELES—An investigation was continuing Aug. 1 into an assault at a high-rise apartment complex in downtown Los Angeles that left a woman hospitalized in critical condition.

The crime occurred about 10 p.m. Tuesday at the WREN Apartments at 1230 S. Olive St., according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and reports from the scene.

LAPD Central Bureau Homicide detectives were involved in the investigation, according to the LAPD, which released few details of the crime. No suspect information was available.

Paramedics sent to the complex at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday found the woman in an apartment in “distress” and with an “apparent traumatic injury,” and she was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to KTLA5, the 21-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her first-floor apartment and hospital staff reported the case to the police after determining her injuries were due to a physical assault.

Tenants at the apartment complex were notified of the criminal investigation on Wednesday morning, and some were shaken by the news of the assault and worried for their safety, KTLA5 reported.

“The reason I chose this apartment is because they have 24/7 security,” a resident named Yi told the station. “That’s why I don’t consider living on the first floor, because the patio area is maybe not quite safe. You have another door to enter the apartment.”
